Tom Dey grew up in New England and studied philosophy, religion and film at Brown University. He continued his pursuit of cinema at the Center for International Educational Exchange in Paris, followed by two years at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. After completing his MFA, Dey joined Ridley Scott Associates, where he directed commercials for eighteen years.
In 1998 Dey transitioned to feature filmmaking with SHANGHAI NOON (Jackie Chan, Owen Wilson). He followed with SHOWTIME (Robert DeNiro, Eddie Murphy), FAILURE TO LAUNCH (Matthew McConaughey, Sarah Jessica Parker), MARMADUKE (Owen Wilson, Emma Stone), and WEDDING SEASON (Suraj Sharma, Pallavi Sharda). His latest project is a short documentary called JUMPMAN that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2024.
Dey splits his time between Los Angeles and New York with his wife, photographer Coliena Rentmeester, and their two children.
